Thank you for thinking green! When you take the "Bleed Orange, Think Green" pledge, you will receive a monthly e-newsletter with a new, easy way to be green every month. It's a great way to incorporate simple environmental habits into your lifestyle.
Your name and email will not be used for other purposes, and you can unsubscribe anytime. The pledge and newsletter are jointly published by Environmental Health and Safety, a UT office, and the Campus Environmental Center, an agency of Student Government.
The "Bleed Orange, Think Green" Pledge I pledge to reduce my energy use, I pledge to reduce the waste I produce, and I pledge to develop more sustainable habits by practicing 5 or more of the following actions: (Click on each item to find out more and for a list of resources.)
Transportation: 1. Bike or take the bus instead of driving 2. Walk rather than drive for short trips
Food Choices: 1. Look for fresh, locally or regionally grown organic food choices 2. Choose foods without many additives or preservatives 3. Learn more about where my food comes from 4. Take or order only what I can eat 5. Purchase goods showing eco-labels (Fair Trade, certified organic, dolphin-safe, etc.)
Energy Conservation: 1. Choose energy efficient, Energy Star-rated appliances 2. Use the daylight instead of turning my lights on 3. Shut down or utilize power management software to reduce computer energy use 4. Turn off the lights when I'm the last one to leave a room 5. Unplug appliances and chargers when not in use 6. Use rechargeable batteries 7. Use the stairs instead of the elevator
Recycling: 1. Double-side when printing or copying 2. Reuse paper printed only on one side 3. Receive and read newspapers and bills online instead of on paper 4. Recycle paper, bottles, and cans instead of trashing them 5. Recycle my old cell phone, computer, and electronics 6. Recycle my empty ink cartridges
Water Conservation: 1. Repair (or report) water leaks and drips 2. Take shorter showers and use a low flow faucet or shower head 3. Only do laundry when I have full loads General: 1. Buy in bulk or choose minimal packaging 2. Buy used items (cloths, books, etc.) 3. Carry my own mug or reusable water bottle instead of using throwaways 4. Get involved with environmentally or socially responsible student groups 5. Other (please explain)
